5 Chapions Converge on the Caribbean for $250K GTD WSOPC Tournament in St Maarten

Five online satellite winners from Intertops Poker and Juicy Stakes Casino are making their way to the Caribbean to compete in the $250,000 GTD WSOPC St Maarten Main Event this week.

The WSOPC St Maarten, now in its fourth year, is a well-run tournament produced by TK Poker.  It attracts all kinds of players – professionals, semi-professionals, and recreational – from all over the world. Each champion took down an online satellite at Intertops or Juicy Stakes and won a $4500 prize package that includes the $1700 Main Event buy-in and luxury accommodation at the Sonesta Maho resort.

Chris Perkins won his way to St Maarten at Intertops a couple of years ago. Since that first taste of international competition, he's quit his day job and has been travelling and playing poker.

"I'm super excited to go back to the island," said Chris. "I hope everything looks close to normal after the hurricane."

"I played a $2 rebuy to win a seat into the $110 satellite where I won this trip!"  said Phil who also won his way to Punta Cana at Juicy Stakes Casino three years ago.  "I'm a recreational player.  I work for an architect firm in Pittsburgh, but I play tournaments at the casino near me every now and then.  Really looking forward to going back to St Maarten!"

Lukas has won a seat in St Maarten before and also won an Intertops satellite for the WPT National in Venice. Last fall he won his way into the €500,000 Malta Poker Festival.

"I'm bring my girlfriend with me so she can relax at the beach and pool while I'm in the casino, hopefully getting my first Hendon Mob listing!"  he said.  "It's a win-win situation – if I bust out early, I can have some fun in the sun with my girlfriend!”

Intertops Poker and Juicy Stakes Casino are well-known for their daily online poker tournaments. This Saturday is the next $600 GTD Bounty Run Tournament. Players are paid a $2 bounty for every player they knock out. Punta Cana Poker Classic – Better than at the Hard Rock!

Americas Cardroom players at the Punta Cana Poker Classic agree: the move to the new location was a good idea!  Better food… closer to the beach… and the new Poker 2.0 game rocks!

I arrived in the Caribbean yesterday just as the players were sitting down to the Main Event, Day 1a – everyone excited and hoping they’ll be the one take home the big prize. Like Luis Yepez did last year. He took home more than $185k!

This year the Punta Cana Poker Classic moved from the Hard Rock to the Melia Tropicale – a wise move, according to a couple of regulars.

“I never thought we could do better than the Hard Rock, but this place is really nice,” Steven Schillenberg, who’s been playing this event for eight or nine years, told me.

 “The new game that they have, the 2.0, it’s actually really, really good,” said John Lets, another player from the trusted US poker room who’s been coming to this event for many years.  “I’m really getting into it! I think the more you play it you’ll enjoy it even more.

In First Episode of Living the Dream TV, CPT Punta Cana Organizer Looks Forward to Next Week's Tournament

Here's the first episode of Living the Dream TV where I'll be following five online tournament champions that won their way to the CPT poker tournament in Punta Cana.

In the first episode, I speak with CPT Punta Cana organizer Leon Groenewoud.  He looks forward to the event at the Hard Rock Casino next week and speculates on how our players -- Daniel, Derek, Neal, Steven and Phil -- will do at the live poker tournament.

I'm going to Punta Cana with this group of primarily online players to help them share their experience at the live poker tournament.  I'll be publishing daily video reports here and on the Living the Dream poker player blog during the CPT Punta Cana tournament, November 4 – 8, 2015.  I’ll have tournament results as well as interviews with the Living the Dream players and other players at the tournament. I’ll also follow them around with my video camera as they enjoy the resort!

Five online satellite tournament winners won their way to the live poker tournament at the Hard Rock Punta Cana

The five online tournament champions that have won their way to the Caribbean are: 32 year old Austrian poker pro, Daniel Montagnolli; Neil Slade, a builder and recreational poker player from Hampshire UK; Derek Scallon, a Chicago poker pro and film producer, Steven Loney, a businessman who plays poker for fun, and Phil Cardella, a Pittsburgh CAD designer and purely recreational player.

CPT Punta Cana will be at the luxurious five-star Punta Cana Hard Rock Casino and Hotel November 3rd to 8th. Last November, American poker pro Ari Engel defeated a field of 507 to claim the trophy and $177,045 for his victory in the 2014 Punta Cana Poker Classic.
