TKPT Day 2: No Survivors

I'm still in the Caribbean this week with five online poker players that won satellite tournaments at Intertops Poker to play in the TKPT tournament here in St Maarten.

Unfortunately, none of our team survived Day 2 of TKPT -- but a couple of friends did advance to the Final Table tonight.

In fact, Chris' friend Brian Kulp, who was the star of our karaoke video the other night, is the chip leader going into the Final Table! We've also been hanging out with Akash Mazumba who won TKPT last year after winning his way to that tournament in an Intertops satellite tournament. He'll be at the Final Table again this year.

Living the Dream Team Prepares for TKPT Main Event

This week I'm in the Caribbean with five players who all won their way to TKPT St Maarten in online satellite tournaments at Intertops Poker or Juicy Stakes Poker.  We arrived yesterday and the Main Event starts tonight. Last night they had a chance to check out their competition by playing in a smaller warm-up tournament – and by having a little fun at a local cantina!

Tim and Chris, who were both with us in Austria a couple months ago, were a little surprised at how aggressively their European competition played. They’re thinking things might be a little more relaxed here…

TKPT St Maarten: Serious Poker & Serious Fun

Next week, I'm going to a big poker tournament with a group of online poker players that won their way to the Caribbean. They'll be playing in the Main Event at the TKPT tournament in St Maarten. Like I did when we took other online satellite tournament winners to Punta Cana and to Seefeld, Austria, I'll be publishing a series of videos starting April 27th.

The web video series will follow five online satellite tournament winners from Intertops Poker  and Juicy Stakes Poker competing in the TKPT Caribbean Main Event.

This is the third time we’ve taken a bunch of online tournament winners to a big live tournament. It’s interesting to watch the guys adjust to the different kinds of players they encounter at international tournaments. Tim and Chris were with us at CAPT Seefeld so it’ll be good to hang out with them again!

I'll be hanging out with the five online players -- Tim O'Keefe, Chris Perkins, Elena Stover, John Curcurcu and Gabor Kresco -- as they compete in the Main Event and as they enjoy everything else the tropical paradise has to offer.



In the preview video, tournament organizer Thomas Kremser talks about what to expect next week.

“The tournament attracts both professional and recreational players from around the world. It's serious poker,” said Kremser, “but there’s also be some serious fun to be had!”

Kremser is organizing island excursions for players like zip lining, ATV touring and a party bus with DJ and open bar.

In February, I went with Living the Dream to CAPT Seefeld in Austria with a group of online satellite tournament winners. Before that, we went to CPT Punta Cana. The next poker adventure will be in July when winners of current online satellite tournaments will go to the European Poker Championships at CAPT Velden in Austria.

The winner of an online satellite series last spring won a trip to the CPT St Maarten in May but didn’t do as well at the live tournament as he’d done online. “I played OK, just not my day. On the bright side, I had a fantastic time in St. Maarten before and after the tournament!” he wrote in the Living the Dream poker blog where online tournament winners share their live tournament experiences.

Intertops Poker Player Getting Live Tournament Experience at WPT Venice this Weekend

Intertops Poker is sending another online satellite winner to a big live tournament event this weekend.  This time it's Lukas W, a 28 year old civil servant from Germany, and he'll be competing in the WPT Venice.  The winner will post photos and stories from Venice on the Living the Dream blog.

Lukas won a $2200 WPT Prize Package that includes €990 buy-in for the WPT National Main Event plus premium hotel accommodation near the casino for him and his girlfriend.

An Intertops Poker player that recently won an online satellite tournament will be at the WPT Venice this weekend.

"I realized that I might win when we were 3-handed." "I eliminated one of the opponents in an all in situation KQ>K7 and won a huge pot. At the heads-up, the other player was crippled and so it was over very quick. "

"I don't play lots of major events. Usually, I'm playing cash games. " "In 2013 I played a 330€ side event at the EPT Berlin and last year I won a seat at the FPS Cannes for 1.100€. I reached day 2 with only 25BB, and I busted fast without cash. Hopefully, it's time for a catch in Venice this weekend!"

The €200,000 GTD WPT National Venice will be at the Casino de Venezia, the world's oldest gaming establishment, April 17th to April 20th. The game will be No Limit Texas Hold’em. Players will begin with 30,000 chips. Blind levels last 40 minutes. The prize pool will be €200,000 guaranteed.

“About 10 hands after the AKs hand, the blinds are 125/250/20 and we are now 4-handed. I open UTG w/A9s and BB calls. Flop is T75ss. He had been calling pretty wide this tournament (~40% from the BB), and he wasn't folding often to Flop C-Bets. So even if my Ace-high is good, I felt it was better to pot control and re-evaluate the turn.”

“After the turn the board reads T759ss. So, I now have second-pair top-kicker, but it's also a card that could improve his hand as well (based on his perceived range). He checks, and I decide to bet for value, betting 525 into a 1,205 pot. He just calls.”

“River is 2s, so the board now reads T7592sss. He checks. The 2s doesn't change that much, as it adds a flush possibility, but doesn't improve any straight draws and is unlikely to improve his paired hands. Hence, if I am ahead with A9 on the turn, I can only get value from a weaker 9x or 7x. It's probably close (betting vs. checking behind), but I decided to check behind, and he turns over 5s3s for a flush. Great flop for him and even better river. But I like the fact that I controlled the betting and lost the minimum.”
